Every year, the SSO:USA annual research conference brings together leading researchers, scholars, therapists and students to exchange ideas and share their work related to the study of participation in daily activities, or those activities that occupy our lives. After careful consideration, the SSO:USA board has decided to hold our 2021 conference online, rather than meeting in-person as originally planned. The virtual conference will take place September 24 - 25, 2021, with posters available for viewing from September 20 - October 3. Presentations have been pre-recorded and will be shown their specified time during the conference program. Each presentation will be followed by a synchronous question-and-answer/dialogue session with the presenter(s). We look forward to having you join us for this fully online event!

Conference Theme: Occupation and Gender. In many societies, gender expectations have historically been intertwined with occupational engagement. As we embark on the third decade of occupational science, let’s explore the current state of the science with respect to gender and occupation.

Theme Speaker: Our theme speaker this year is J. Clapp. They will present an engaging lecture titled “Queering Occupation and Gender Affirmation”.

Virtual Occupational Balance opportunities: One of the unique features of SSO:USA conferences is the attention devoted to networking, balance, and quality of participants’ experiences. We will offer several virtual occupational balance options during scheduled conference breaks.

Talent Share: See flier for more details.

Abstracts of presentations are published in the 2021 SSO:USA Proceedings.

The conference agenda is available here, and can be found on the registration website.

Update on Preconference Institute: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Preconference Institute on translational research hosted by Joy Hammel, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA has been cancelled. Refunds will be issued to those who had already registered for that event. We apologize for the inconvenience.
